Exceptions have been made for the square footage of lofts

There has been an addendum to the Maine Uniform Energy and Building Code (MUBEC ) to include tiny homes.
A Tiny Home is a dwelling of 400sq’ or less in floor area excluding lofts to be used for bedrooms along with an egress window or Skylight for a fire escape.

This also lowered ceiling Heights and shortened the width of stair treads along with allowing a ship’s ladder for loft access too.
Tiny homes are relatively new to Maine and legislators are welcoming them and doing their best to make sure these are safeĀ and accessible living quarters.
