In an increasingly disposable world, it nice to know things can stand the test of time….

At Matt Portela Custom and Tiny Homes, we strive to put out quality work that has functionality, taste, and longevity. Whether your project needs to be: re-purposed, slightly tweaked or custom built, Matt Portela Custom and Tiny Homes can assist you.

I’ve enjoyed taking an object and giving it a new life in another purpose.

For over 19 years I have been working with and for some really wonderful and imaginative people in the field of custom carpentry. My experiences have led me to be skilled in all stages of  construction and building Tiny Homes.

Some of my specialties in residential carpentry are……..

  • New windows
  • Siding
  • Interior and exterior trims and moldings
  • Kitchens, custom built ins, cabinetry
  • Restorations
  • Renovations
  • New construction
  • Decks, sunrooms and porches
  • Island homes and camps
  • Custom Cabinetry
  • Finish Carpentry
  • Custom Built-Ins
  • Kitchen Cabinets
  • Trim Carpenter
  • Off Grid Work (including islands)
  • Re-purposing old material
  • Optimizing Storage for Tiny Homes
  • Movement Circulation
  • Space Modeling and Construction

Years of taking thoughts and trying to turn them into reality has taught me to think a little outside the box. I knew that building the prosaic ‘traditional home’ would give me the knowledge I needed to build affordable and sustainable interior and exterior construction projects and cozy Tiny Home plan you may have.

Tinkering, re-purposing, or just keeping something usable has always been a past time, or more often  necessity. I remember hearing “Waste not, want not” a lot growing up, I suppose it has become one of the defining factors of my work.

In the words of Henry David Thoreau,  “as you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simper; Solitude will not be Solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness.”
